Ok i usually don't write long reviews like this one, but i feel like this game deserves one. After having 100percented the game, i can say that this is probably the best browser game i have ever played.

You can definitely tell that the creators of the game really like terraria and minecraft. Some elements are clearly inspired by these games. The whole progression system with the bosses feels very terraria-esque, and the music seems definitely inspired by minecraft (The music is absolutely beautiful and very fitting by the way). I see a lot of people criticizing that it feels too similar to terraria. But come on. Why change what works? Terraria is my most played and favourite game, and that did not make me enjoy waxweaver any less. I think this game has actually quite a different feel from terraria, even though it borrows a lot of elements from it. I think this game feels a lot more snappy and quick. For example: there is no cooldown for placing blocks, which feels great in my opinion. Also this game has a really strong emphasis on atmosphere. Something that i really liked is that when you go deeper into the caves, there is a reverb added on all the sounds, which really suits the atmosphere.

But yyeah, when i started playing, i built my home in the snowy biome, which was not very smart of me i think. The penguins and snowman were both really tough enemies. I do wish that there was something like a bed, so you could set your spawnpoint where you want to (Or maybe there was something like that and i'm too dumb to find it). I really liked these tall sunflowers, i built a farm with them and pretty much just ate these sunflower crackers my entire run. Another thing that i would criticize is that i wish you could stack more of them. I always had to carry like a million stacks of them when i was fighting bosses, same thing with arrows. Idk, in my opinion inventory management is one of the more frustrating and boring elements in these types of games, so i'd make the stacks a bit larger. This would also suit this sorta "quick and snappy" feel that i talked about earlier.

Exploration was fun imo and enemies were creative and well balanced. I think the bosses were also well crafted. I especially liked the worm boss, because you sorta had to understand what the colors mean, which was really rewarding to me when i did. It also forced you to use a different strategy, because you pretty much had to use all weapon types (Or at least you had a disadvantage when you didn't) ((That's what the colors meant, right? 😅 I'm still not 100 percent sure lol)). I did have a kinda weird bug (?) when i beat the final boss: He changed my gravity and launched me really far away, and then he died. The items despawned then because i was too far away i think. But yeah also i think that the final boss could be a little bit harder (Idk was it just me or was the magician miniboss harder than the final boss? lol). The thing where your gravity changes when you go around the corners was a really cool idea i think. Yes, it was kinda weird sometimes when i was in the caves, but not too bad.

As i said earlier, i really loved this game. It was really addicting and I really liked that the game didn't explain a lot, but you had to figure out things yourself. I love that such an amazing game is playable in the browser, i can't remember the last time i was so invested in a browser game :)

kaiakairos responds:

thank u for playing and the big long essay. there are beds you can craft that set your spawn. and i cant buff the sunflower crackers, they already had to be nerfed once lol (try making fish sandwiches ) i will fix that issue with the final boss soon

StaggerNight responds:

I cant speak for Reeez but the original version of the Harness Weaver song was me trying to simulate some of Lena Raines mixing style specifically which worked out well. The other ambience was a mix of Mother 3 hottub and my own experiments. Boss music i just spat out when needed lol. All of Reeez tracks are awesome and I really like them. Thanks for the cool essay an awesome read.
